The controls, at a glance
Use these while holding the item. Q/E changes its orientation before you place it; F is the documented flip binding and R restores its orientation. Your own Key Binds screen takes priority if you have changed the defaults. [1]
Rotate, then place
- Pick the item up. Click the inventory item or module so you are holding it over the grid.
- Choose an orientation. Press Q or E, and line the item up with the free cells.
- Check the whole shape. Rotation does not make an item smaller. Every occupied cell still needs room, and the destination must accept that item.
- Place it. Put it into the valid grid position. The same rotation controls are described for machine modules. [2]
If Q/E does nothing
First check that you are actually holding an item. Leave any text-entry field, then open Options → Key Binds and check the current bindings. If the object rotates but will not fit, inspect the shape, occupied cells and destination slot.
This guide covers PC inventory items and modules. It does not establish furniture-rotation or controller controls.
