Look for a combination of clues
Start with the in-game Augmented Identification Guide and Mentor Note. They describe things to notice, not a single appearance that makes every customer an Aug. A walkthrough reproduces the handbook and customer encounters so you can compare the wording with the game. [1]
| Check | Possible clue | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Visible features | A visible chip, unusual eyes or facial expression | Compare several features with the handbook; do not turn a clothing style or one face into a permanent label. |
| Movement | Unusual stillness or twitching | Observe the visitor instead of deciding from one frozen frame. |
| Speech | Mechanical or unusually formal phrasing | Read it alongside the appearance and behavior. |
| Aug Scanner | A scan result for the current visitor | Use a powered scanner and read its output. Suspicion and a completed scan are different states. |
For the visual reference itself, open the handbook and encounter images in the source walkthrough. The table above summarizes the checks; it is not a substitute for inspecting the actual visitor. [1][2]
Why “Threaten (Aug)” does not identify one
This is the most useful distinction to keep in mind: an available action says what you can try, while a scanner result says what the device reported. Seeing the action does not establish the customer’s identity.
Confirm before choosing a response
- Compare the handbook clues. Keep a suspicious visitor separate from a confirmed identification.
- Check your scanner. Follow its item requirements and power it before use.
- Scan the current customer. Read the result. If you have no functioning scanner, do not treat a guess as a scan confirmation.
- Use the actions available in that situation. A weapon shown in one encounter is not proof that it can be equipped at any moment. [1][2]
The Mentor Note warns that Augs can interfere with security communications and escape. Calling security should not be described as a guaranteed solution to every Aug encounter. [1]
This reference does not establish a fixed spawn day, a universal scanner energy cost or a guaranteed reward. Check the item and encounter you are actually dealing with.
